Bethesda Shares 45-Minute Starfield Gameplay, Game Will Be Locked At 30fps On Consoles

Starfield

Starfield, Bethesda’s upcoming space-based RPG, has received a grand 45-minute showcase ahead of its September release. Game director Todd Howard calls it “a Bethesda RPG through and through” in the video that takes a deep dive into most of the game’s main offerings.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that Starfield will be locked at 30fps on Xbox Series X/S consoles. Howard was speaking to IGN when he admitted that the game does sometimes run at 60fps on consoles but locking the framerate ensures more consistency in terms of performance.

Starfield will run in 4K resolution on the Xbox Series X and at 1440p on the Series S. The PC version, on the other hand, will see no such restrictions.

Starfield’s 45-minute gameplay showcase, which you can watch in the space below, gives us a broad look at the kind of open-world environments the game will feature. It also gives us a look at various gameplay elements that will form part of the experience.

These include shipbuilding, base building, resource collection, character creation, spaceship combat, pirating, and much more. Starfield is clearly Bethesda’s biggest game yet in terms of scope and vision.

It takes place in an area that extends outward from the Solar System for approximately 50 light-years called The Settled Systems. It’s set around the year 2310 in the midst of an uneasy peace in a conflict between two space-based powers called the United Colonies and Freestar Collective.

Apart from PC and Xbox Series X/S, Starfield was also supposed to launch for the PS5 but that changed after Microsoft’s $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda’s parent ZeniMax Media. Now, there’s absolutely no hope of the game ever arriving on the PS5.

If you’re a PC or Xbox gamer, however, you can look forward to September 6, when Starfield is scheduled to release worldwide.
