Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime headed to Netflix in 2022, game gets new trailer

Cyberpunk 2077

Even as a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 arrived, there’s also been an announcement about a tie-in anime series called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that’s destined for a Netflix release in 2022. The game’s new trailer, titled ‘The Gig,’ features Keanu Reeves once again, and affirms the newly delayed November release date. As for the anime series, it’s supposed to be a 10-episode affair, which will be a collab between CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be a standalone story, with little to do with the game’s narrative. It has been revealed to be about a street kid trying to survive Night City’s world that’s obsessed with technology and body modifications. Dire circumstances force him to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner – a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.

“I’ve always loved cyberpunk as a genre, but always found it difficult to create as an original work,” said Hiroyuki Imaishi, who will be directing the series. “This is why I’m very excited to be working with CD Projekt Red on this project. It won’t be easy to please both game and anime fans, but I love a challenge, and I’m looking forward to the production. We’ll do our best to meet and exceed expectations.”

Meanwhile, coming back to Cyberpunk 2077, it has been revealed to have some pretty state of the art graphical features on PC. Additional ray-tracing features have been detailed by the developers now. These include ray-traced ambient occlusion, ray-traced diffuse illumination, ray-traced reflections, and ray-traced shadows. A few screenshots showing these technologies in action have also been launched by the company, apart from the trailer.

As we said, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will hit Netflix in 2020. As for Cyberpunk 2077, it will be seen hitting the PS4, the Xbox One, and PC on November 19.
