Mass Effect Legendary Edition Announced, New Mass Effect Game In Development Too

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition

Rumors have been flying around for quite some time now about the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, but BioWare has now finally made it official. In case you’re unaware, this is a 4K remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy featuring Commander Shepard’s story and is slated for a 2021 release. What’s even more exciting is that the company has confirmed that a new Mass Effect game is in development, but there’s no release window in sight for now.

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition has been announced for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. As for next-gen consoles, they will be forward compatible with them and are supposed to come with “targeted enhancements.” The bundle will include Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 along with all the DLC that was released for the three games. These remasters will moreover, support 4K Ultra HD visuals, faster frame rates, and HDR.

The Legendary Edition, BioWare notes, is not a full remake by any means, but rather an enhanced version that allows new players to experience the first three games in their “best possible form.” Fans can expect updated textures, shaders, models, and effects to make their way into the games.

BioWare Vice President and studio General Manager Casey Hudson said, “As game developers, we always hope that our games will transcend their original platforms. Having the opportunity to remaster the trilogy means that the fruits of a decade of our work will live on, and will be experienced better and clearer than ever before.”

Little has been revealed about the new Mass Effect game other than the fact that it’s in its “early stages” and is being handled by “a veteran team.” The last game in the series was its fourth entry, titled Mass Effect: Andromeda, which wasn’t as well-received as the games from the main trilogy.
