Nintendo Confirms Language Error In Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch Device

Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch

While the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S consoles will be battling it out in the market, this week will also see a Nintendo device arriving on store shelves. Instead of a new console, however, it will be a special edition of the Game & Watch handheld from the 1980s that will play, among other games, the original Super Mario Bros. However, ahead of this launch, Nintendo has announced that a certain language error will, unfortunately, plague the device at launch.

This error pertains to the Mario Drawing song that plays over the device’s digital clock. As per the company, the handheld will display the song’s lyrics in the wrong language if you select German, French, Italian, or Spanish from the title screen. You will only experience this error when you choose one of the four languages mentioned. Those who select English, Dutch or Japanese on the title screen will get the lyrics displayed correctly over the song.

Nintendo has assured eager buyers of the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch that the language issue only applies to the device’s digital clock and it won’t affect any other aspect of handheld. The company has also said that you will be able to change the language at any time while the song is playing.

The Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch has been created by Nintendo to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario series. The occasion was also marked by the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which features high-definition ports of Super Mario 64 (1996), Super Mario Sunshine (2002), and Super Mario Galaxy (2007). And then there was Super Mario Bros. 35, a version of the original game with battle royale elements thrust into it.

Coming back to the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch, it will be available for purchase in the US via major retailers from November 13 onwards for $50. Apart from the said game, it will also include its original sequel and the classic Game & Watch game Ball, featuring Mario.
