Fallout TV series announced by Amazon, Westworld creators roped in

Bethesda’s Fallout series of RPGs is all set to be adapted into a TV show, even as Amazon Studios has licensed the rights to it. Better yet, the show’s development will be helmed by Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan, best known as the creators of HBO’s hit sci-fi drama, Westworld. No details regarding who will be writing or directing the show have been revealed yet.

The announcement of the Fallout TV series came after a tweet on the Amazon Studios Twitter account teased the show by flashing the logos of Amazon Studios, Joy and Nolan’s Kilter Films, and Bethesda Studios together with trademark Fallout art. Hollywood Reporter tells us that although the project is in development, it has a series commitment penalty attached. That means if the script is liked by Amazon, there won’t be any need to create a pilot, as it will directly get a series commitment. If otherwise, the writers and all those involved will be paid and let go.

Lisa Joy and Jonah Nolan said in a joint statement, “Fallout is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

Fallout games are set in the 22nd and 23rd centuries in a world ravaged by nuclear war. The first game from the series was released way back in 1997, while the second one came in the following year. Fallout 4 was the latest main entry to the series and was released in 2015. There have also been several spin-offs that have been released by Bethesda.
