After years of being under development from Platinum Games, Scalebound, the Microsoft-exclusive action role-playing game has been cancelled by the Xbox-maker. A clear reason for this hasn’t been provided by the company, but it has mentioned that the cancellation is a result of ”˜business decisions.’
Despite Scalebound having been axed, Microsoft’s lineup of exclusive games in 2017 doesn’t take a big blow. Xbox One and PC gamers will still be able to dabble in State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2 and Crackdown 3.
Following the cancellation, Microsoft has parted ways with Platinum Games. The company has indeed maintained that it has great respect for Platinum Games, which by the way is responsible for the highly appreciated Bayonetta.
The development of Scalebound was apparently going well until E3 of 2016. The developers of this game gave attendees a good look at it and were pretty positive about its prospects.
However, everything kind of went downhill from there on. Around the time September came along, the game’s social media pages started going blank, giving us a vague idea about something not being right.
For those unaware, Scalebound players assume the role of Drew, who is accompanied by a dragon named Thuban. Apart from using various weapons, Drew also has the ability to command Thuban. That being its story, the game had also gotten many excited due to its incorporation of a four-player co-operative multiplayer mode.
Scalebound was earlier slated to release at the end of 2016, but was delayed into 2017. And with it now having been cancelled, fans will be very disappointed.
