Deus Ex: Mankind Divided trademark filing hints at next-gen Deus Ex offering

A mystery trademark for the name Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been filed in Europe by Square Enix, sending rumor mongers in a tizzy. We know that a next-gen entry to the series is under development at the moment, and there are possibilities that this trademark has something to do with it. Square Enix is mum on the matter, and we’re not expecting to hear something official from the company anytime soon.

Deus Ex Universe

Discovered by NeoGAF user Rösti, the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided trademark was filed at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market in Europe. It applies to ‘computer game software,’ ‘printed matter’ and ‘entertainment services,’ and is currently under review. David Anfossi who heads Eidos Montreal had revealed last year that they’re busy building a huge Deus Ex: Universe which will encompass not only games but even other media like books and mobile games.

Hence it’s almost a given that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided could be referring something from this universe. But as Joystiq points out, Anfossi had also said that ‘trans-humanism segregation’ will be a major theme in the next-gen Deus Ex game that’s currently being made for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. If trans-human applies to Mankind and segregation applies to Divided, then we think we know what we have on our hands here.

Anyway, speculations will definitely continue, but we’ll be trying to dig out more about whatever this Deus Ex: Mankind Divided trademark is all about, so stay tuned.
