Dragon Age: Inquisition won’t be sold in India, ‘local obscenity laws’ to be blamed

Dragon Age: Inquisition, EA’s latest role-playing offering from the long-running series has been met with quite a shocking fate in India. The game won’t be sold in the country on any platform, and the publisher has made it clear that this is the case due to ‘local obscenity laws.’ However, there’s an alternate argument which is saying that the game’s sales have been abandoned owing to the fact that it contains homosexual characters and same-sex romance. Whatever be the reason, gamers in India will officially not be able to play the title, and if they’ve pre-ordered it beforehand, refunds will be issued to them.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

The whole controversy arose when Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Origin page said that those from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh who have purchased the digital version of the game for PC will receive refunds soon. NDTV Gadgets was told by EA that this has been done in order to avoid any breaches of ‘local content laws.’ When the site dug deeper and contacted the game’s official console distributor in India, Milestone Interactive, it was informed that the game’s ‘homosexual sex scenes’ are to be blamed for its withdrawal.

This was then followed by a contradictory statement by EA which seems to be tailored with an aim of slightly numbing the controversy. According to what the company told Kotaku, the sales of Dragon Age: Inquisition have been abandoned in India particularly due to ‘local obscenity laws’ and not due to ‘same gender romance.’

Anyway, all this effectively means that Indian gamers won’t be able to get into Dragon Age: Inquisition on any platform it is available on in other nations. Like we said, refunds will soon be issued to all those who have pre-ordered it.
