A ”˜dark and terrifying’ new chapter for Diablo 3 is all geared up to be launched in the form of its Reaper of Souls expansion which just got announced at the ongoing Gamescom event in Germnay. There’s no word at the moment about its release date details however. Concern also remains about the the platforms it will be coming out for, considering that this latest Diablo game’s PS3, Xbox 360 and PS4 versions are also in the pipeline currently.

Blizzard revealed through a press meet today that a new playable class as well as a raised level cap of 70 will both form part of the expansion. In Reaper of Souls, players will be able to jump into the shoes of the Crusader, making him the sixth playable class for the title. Described as warriors of righteousness, Crusaders rely on a large number of weapons and heavy armor. This character can also make use of battle magic to strengthen allies and weaken enemies.
The story in Reaper of Souls revolves around Malthael, the fallen Archangel of Wisdom who had disappeared following the happenings in the second game’s Lord of Destruction expansion. He has now staged a return, and has seized the Black Soulstone which contains the essence of Prime Evil. Players are hence faced with the task of tracking down Malthael, and stopping him in his tracks before he destroys the world.
The Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls expansion is now playable at Gamescom, and additional details about it are set to be revealed at this year’s Blizzcon convention which is to take place in November.
