Diablo III to Ship Sans PvP Matches

Fans of one of this year’s most anticipated titles might be disappointed to know that Diablo III has been confirmed by Blizzard to ship without its PvP offerings. This mode and its systems have apparently not been living up to their standards, and that’s what has prompted the developer to exclude it from the game at launch.

Diablo III 1

Blizzard has explained on the game’s official blog that it is eager to announce a release date for the upcoming RPG, but the way the PvP Arena system is panning out is not meeting its expectations. This mode however, will be released in the form of a patch later on. The download will infuse the game with multiple Arena maps with themed locations and layouts, PvP-centric achievements and a special matchmaking system.

“After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who’s waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete. While we work on making sure PvP lives up to its full potential, we hope you’ll find some consolation in the fact that soon, you’ll be having a blast leveling characters, finding items, learning the classes, and perfecting builds…and that when the Arenas do arrive, you’ll be all the better prepared for battle,” Jay Wilson, Game Director of Diablo III, wrote on the blog.

Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that Blizzard is currently in the process of applying finishing touches to the campaign and co-op modes. This RPG is a sequel to the much loved Diablo II which was released way back in 2000 for PC. It will contain elements of hack and slash as well as dungeon crawl genres, and will also be outed for Mac along with PC.

Maybe the exclusion of the PvP mode from Diablo III will mean that we’ll finally be able to get a word on the release date of this title, which is said to have been under development since 2001.
