Final Fantasy XIII-2 Released for Retail, First DLC Arriving on February 7

Square Enix has finally launched its much awaited RPG, Final Fantasy XIII-2, which can now be purchased by gamers in North America for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The European and PAL version of this title is however, slated to hit markets on February 3. Subsequently, its first DLC will go live on PSN and Xbox Live on February 7 and 8, respectively.

Said to have been crafted with the aim to exceed the quality of its precursor, this title supposedly kicks in new gameplay systems as well as cutting-edge visuals and audio. Being an RPG, the game presents players with the freedom to choose from a number of possibilities and paths. Ultimately, these decisions and the choices they make will have an effect on the immediate environment, while also shaping time and space.

According to publisher Square Enix, ‘extensive’ add-on content has been planned to be made available for FFXIII-2 in the future. The first batch of DLC, which will be seen arriving through PSN and Xbox Live, will include Coliseum Battles that are said to pit players against characters from previous Final Fantasy games. Dubbed Lightning & Amodar, this content allows the defeated characters to be recruited into the player’s party.

In addition, more content that is scheduled to be outed for this offering in the coming months will apparently provide players with the opportunity to explore some of the game’s secrets. These comprise story episodes of important characters like Lightning, which look to complement the narrative of FFXIII-2. Further details on the release of the content will be divulged by the publisher on a later date.

Now available in North America for the PS3 and Xbox 360, Final Fantasy XIII-2 will hit stores in European and PAL territories on February 3, 2012. It is priced for both the consoles at 59.99 USD (approx Rs. 2,965).
