THQ Unveils de Blob 2: The Underground, Marks Spring 2011 Release

For the ones who have thus far unheeded a colorful globule that bounces around the environs of a monotonous city, de Blob is a 2008 platform-puzzle video game which enables players to do just the same. Players explore Chroma City as de Blob and attempt to release it from the monochromatic INKT Corporation that has overtaken the city, banishing all color and life within. The game’s publisher THQ has now pronounced the next iteration of this vivid game as de Blob 2: The Underground, and has scheduled it to release in Spring next year. Alongside, it has also been reported that the game will be introduced on HD consoles with 3D graphics capabilities.

“We are thrilled to expand the world of de Blob into high definition and 3D gaming with an entertaining and immersive experience that brings back the adventures of the fun-loving, free-spirited hero,” commented Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Games, THQ. “In addition to the release of de Blob 2: The Underground, THQ will extend the reach of its most colorful owned intellectual property with an upcoming Syfy partnership and de Blob-branded consumer products.”

The Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 version of de Blob 2: The Underground sees Comrade Black, the villainous dictator from the previous installment, returning in disguise as Papa Blanc along with his battle against color. While Comrade Black lives upto his infamies by rigging the city’s election to win and acquire governance over Prisma City by a brainwashing new cult, de Blob will strike back in multicolor splattering force revolution as he restores color and life back in the city along with its denizens. Smearing colors across the pollution-filled Prisma City featuring a new interactive soundtrack, de Blob is said to maneuver a bunch of new tricks to stun his foes.

Assisting de Blob in his enemy encounters and nullifying traps, the new robot sidekick Pinky will negotiate the challenging levels of Prisma City. Reportedly, gamers will also be offered new side quests which allow them to upgrade de Blob’s abilities. Presenting with multiplayer modes supporting co-op and competitive play, de Blob 2: The Underground will bring an in-depth single-player campaign with all-new power-ups and challenges.

Players will take de Blob across areas of 2D side-scrolling gameplay where they will face various new moves from the humorous and mischievous hero such as Slingshots, Wall Jumps and a Sticky Mode which allows them to smash enemies and perform gravity-defying moves.

Set to be released in Spring 2011, de Blob 2: The Underground will be available for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS devices.
