Double Fine and THQ Announce Stacking, Arrives Early Next Year

Brutal Legend fame Double Fine team and THQ are collaborating on a new imaginative third-person adventure puzzler project that is reported to deliver great storytelling and new puzzle-solving fun in a visually lush setting for Xbox 360 and PS3 console systems. Now, the game’s producers have announced a suggestive launch in early 2011 for their second co-production, Stacking, a downloadable release via XBLA and PSN.

Stacking

Invoking demandingly perceptual challenges, Stacking follows the story of Charlie Blackmore, the youngest doll in a family of Russian stacking dolls separated in difficult financial times, who embarks on a heroic journey to reunite with his family. Being one size smaller than any other doll in the world, Charlie can be easily overlooked and dismissed. Players will help Charlie realize that his small size can be his greatest strength.

“Stacking is distinctive in its overall cinematic look as well as its approach to puzzle solving, and we believe the game will appeal to both the casual and hardcore video game player,” stated Martin Good, Executive Vice President, THQ Kids, Family, Casual Games, and Global Online Services. “We are pleased to expand our library of digital download offerings and do so with high-quality games from the wonderfully creative team at Double Fine Productions.”

“We’re really excited to be doing another game with THQ, building on the success we had with Costume Quest, and delivering another great adventure told in an entirely new way. What Lee has created with Stacking is something truly awesome – a game with a great story and puzzles, and a completely fresh method for interacting with them both,” said Tim Schafer, Double Fine Productions founder and CEO.

THQ and Double Fine Productions released their first downloadable game Costume Quest earlier in October, making Stacking their second online offering. The new adventure puzzler enables players to capture and stack dolls together while using each doll’s unique abilities to solve the game’s challenges. New dolls will be unlocked as more puzzles are solved while the games illustriously structured story unfurls.

Each new challenge in Stacking has multiple solutions and gamers are offered to discover all of them along with various new characters and side activities with numerous rewards present in the game. With an expected release date falling sometime in Spring 2011, Stacking will be made available via XBLA and PSN.
