Red Dead Redemption Is Headed To PS4 And Nintendo Switch

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption, the first entry to Rockstar’s stellar Western series, has been announced for the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch. Both versions will arrive as digital downloads on August 17, while their physical editions will arrive on October 13.

In case you’re unaware, the first Red Dead Redemption game was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360. And since the latter console’s successor, the Xbox One, had backward compatibility, the game has been playable on it as well as on the Xbox Series X/S.

The PS4’s lack of backward compatibility meant that owners of the console had no chance of getting to play it. With the PS5, Sony has fixed that and this means the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption will indeed be playable on the new-gen console.

Both the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will be made available at $49.99. Despite being playable on all major consoles now, Red Dead Redemption still remains without a PC version. And this while its successor got its PC release only a year after its arrival.

The PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions will be ported by Double Eleven Studios, Rockstar has announced. The studio has also revealed that it will be bundled with its Undead Nightmare DLC which added a zombie twist to the Western game.

Red Dead Redemption was released to rave reviews back in 2010. Its Western setting, gripping story, and a rich open world led it to become one of the best-selling video games of all time.

It was followed in 2018 by a prequel game titled Red Dead Redemption 2 that was way bigger in scope and is counted among the best video games ever made. It has sold more than 53 million copies to date.
