Nvidia 3DTV Play software to enhance the PC gaming experience

It’s not difficult to spot the fact that entertainment’s speeding down the 3D path these days. Nvidia has unveiled a software solution dubbed Nvidia 3DTV Play that enables users to connect desktop or notebook PCs housing GeForce GPUs to HDMI 1.4-compatible 3D TVs for a big screen 3D gaming experience. The company will join Panasonic for the release of this software on the 2010 ‘Panasonic Touch the Future Tour’ that will allow consumers hands-on demos of 3DTV Play-based PCs using Panasonic’s Viera full HD 3D TVs.

It lends support to HDMI 1.4-compatible 3D TVs like the Panasonic Viera plasma full HD 3D TV that was launched this month and accommodates content in 1080p24, 720p60 as also 720p50 3D formats. Active-shutter glasses provided with the Viera can work with Nvidia GPUs, various games and similar 3D content.

“Nvidia is all about raising the bar of PC gaming, and gamers are going to love playing in 3D on one of the new Panasonic Viera 50” full HD 3D TVs. This is truly one of those ‘must experience to believe it’ moments, and we are ecstatic that consumers will have the chance to try it for themselves on any of our 15 stops across the US,” averred Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision technology at Nvidia.

Battlefield Bad Company 2, World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King, and James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game are named among the PC titles that can be played in 3D environments with 3DTV Play. Nvidia software and graphics drivers are capable of converting over 400 games to stereoscopic 3D in real-time. Owners can view 3D photos on the 3D TV and 3D movies. Full HD Blu-ray 3D playback with real-time GPU accelerated decoding and playback on GeForce GPUs is made possible by this software.

“Nvidia is a premier choice for gamers, and 3DTV Play delivers an easy way for them to game on the big screen, for the ultimate, immersive experience. We’re pleased that Nvidia shares our commitment to providing awesome technology to savvy consumers, and we are happy to offer Nvidia the opportunity to highlight their 3D solution as part of our nationwide road show,” cited Bob Perry, Senior VP, Panasonic.
