Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 gets SecuROM removed, EA announces

EA has announced that they have an update to Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. This, they say, will remove that pesky SecuROM technology which needs the game disc to be inserted every time you want to play the game.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 came with the SecuROM technology and the Steam DRM. The update takes effect when you restart your Steam client and it removes the SecuROM technology from your machine as well as the game-specific SecuROM authorization, but it does not affect the Steam digital rights management certificate. This means that players no longer have to pop-in the game disc on every Red Alert 3 play.

The official statement goes something like, “This game was delivered with both Sony SecuROM and Steam digital rights management technology. This patch will remove the SecuROM technology from the game as well as remove the game-specific SecuROM license from your machine. The game will continue to be protected by Steam technology.”
