Ultima Online is the massively multiplayer online role playing game released in 1997. The game has seen many expansions, the last of which was released way back in 2005. Now Mythic Entertainment has announced that the seventh expansion, Ultima Online: Mondain’s Legacy, is available for no charge at all to subscribers of the game. Also available is a 14 day free trial of the game which includes all seven expansions.
Ultima Online: Mondain’s Legacy introduces a new playable race, the elves, as well as a new skill and many new dungeons. The game client will be automatically updated for all those Ultimate Online subscribers who currently do not have the seventh expansion. An eighth expansion titled Stygian Abyss is scheduled to release this summer.
“Mythic is extremely excited about offering Mondain’s Legacy as a free upgrade to all Ultima Online subscribers, as well as new players who sign up for the 14-day free trial,” commented Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer for Mythic Entertainment. “Our goal is to continually provide fresh and rewarding experiences for our thriving UO community. By opening up our 7th expansion to all players, we hope to get everyone excited for the upcoming summer release of our 8th addition, Stygian Abyss.”
Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss features a playable gargoyle race and offers new areas for players to explore, including the gargoyle homeland Ter Mur. The upcoming expansion will also introduce the largest dungeon in the series, the Stygian Abyss, putting players against some of the toughest boss demons, such as the Medusa, Primeval Lich and the Stygian Dragon. This expansion will also feature Player vs. Player zones.
Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss will be released as digital download only, sometime in the summer of 2009, and will require the original Ultima Online game in order to be played.
