World of Warcraft Boosts Vivendi Sales

A few days ago, we had reported that World of Warcraft had crossed the ten million mark in terms of subscribers. Now the publisher of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Vivendi Games has stated that their full year sales increased more than 26.6 percent $1.51 billion in 2007.

The Blizzard division of Vivendi Games raked in $1.20 billion and its sales rose 58 percent over 2006. However, the Sierra division and the mobile division of Vivendi did not have very good results. The business saw their sales decrease to 29 percent to $301 million. The subscriber base of World of Warcraft rose by a couple of million over the year.

Vivendi indicated that they were impacted by unfavorable currency exchange movements. However, the gaming giants were of the view that games from Sierra Entertainment like TimeShift, World in Conflict and F.E.A.R. expansion could not replicate the success of the games like Ice Age 2, F.E.A.R. and Scarface, which were released in 2006.
