UK McDonalds Head Blames Video Games for Childhood Obesity

McDonalds Fries Most of the times video games have been blamed for the real-life violence, but now games have been blamed for childhood obesity too! Steve Easterbrook, who is the head honcho at McDonald in the United Kingdom has told Times Online that video games can partly be blamed for overweight children in Britain.

Steve Easterbrook is the chief executive officer at McDonald’s UK. He said, “I don’t know who is to blame. The issue of obesity is complex and is absolutely one our society is facing, there’s no denial about that, but if you break it down I think there’s an education piece: how can we better communicate to individuals the importance of a balanced diet and taking care of themselves? Then there’s a lifestyle element: there’s fewer green spaces and kids are sat home playing computer games on the TV when in the past they’d have been burning off energy outside.”

Easterbrook also noted that the government has to play a part but individuals also have a responsibility. But it seems quite strange that McD is blaming video games for childhood obesity as they themselves are using video games as a means to attract more customers, just like their arch-rivals Burger King. In India, McDonalds had tied up with online gaming website Zapak last year.
