Gaming Handheld Device and PCs Being Planned by HP

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is planning to foray into the video gaming industry in a big way as it has unveiled plans about a new handheld PC-based device, which is codenamed as ‘Mscape’. They will also come out with a new gaming PC by the end of the year.

HP made these announcements at an event in San Francisco. They have been working on the Mscape technology for about two years and the system has been made in such a way that game developers would be able to take advantage of sensors like GPS (global positioning system) or accelerometers like the ones in the Wii controller. Gamers will be able to play games that are set in a city or park and the sensors could trigger certain events in the game, like a bonus level or an attack by the bad guys.

Rahul Sood, Chief Technology Officer, HP’s gaming division said that they have made the Mscape to get kids off the couch. Speaking about the new gaming PCs, Phil McKinney, VP & GM of HP’s gaming business said, “These are customers who are going up to the high end, but don’t need all that customization.” HP has not revealed any more details about the Mscape or the gaming PCs.

However, we feel it is a nice trend that tech firms like HP are coming into the gaming world as it would bring innovative things for the gamers and also decrease the prices of the gaming hardware and software.
