512MB Memory Unit for Xbox 360 and Increased Xbox Live Arcade Game Size Limit Announced by Microsoft

We had reported about the increase in the Xbox Live Arcade game size limit sometime ago. Microsoft has now confirmed it, as well as announced the 512MB memory unit for Xbox 360. The XBLA size limit will now be 150 MB.

Chris Early, product unit manager for Xbox LIVE Arcade and Microsoft Casual Games at Microsoft explains, “The new size limit offers developers increased flexibility and continued opportunities for innovative game development, while also ensuring that the millions of gamers on Xbox LIVE can continue to easily access, download and play all Xbox LIVE Arcade games on Xbox 360. If you look at current games like ‘RoboBlitz’ and ‘Small Arms,’ it is clear that our developers deliver astonishing game experiences within a compact size limit. Our focus is on continuing to offer developers with an environment that allows for the creation of cost-efficient games and that nurtures an artistic and creative approach to game development.”

Microsoft also announced new games for the XBLA. The games are Boom Boom Rocket, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures, Eets: Chowdown, Jetpac Refuelled and Pinball FX.

For a limited time, the 512MB memory unit will come pre-loaded with the hit Xbox Live Arcade game “Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved”. The price of the 512MB memory unit for the Xbox 360 is $49.99 (approx. Rs. 2200) while the 64 MB card will now cost $29.99 (approx. Rs. 1300).
