Terraria will be coming to the Wii U and 3DS early next year

Terraria, the famous indie game that takes the concept of Minecraft and twists it enough to create an distinct yet awesome sandbox experience, is all set to make its way to the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS platforms. The game’s publisher 505 Games has confirmed that it will be launched for the two consoles in the first quarter of 2016.

The most important change from the original games that these two versions will feature is touchscreen support of course. It has been revealed that online as well as offline multiplayer support will be present in the Terraria’s Wii U and 3DS versions. While the former platform will support up to eight players (with four-player split-screen also available), the latter will only allow four gamers to play at a time.

It’s not to say that touchscreen versions of Terraria don’t exist at all; the game after all is already available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices, apart from the PS Vita of course. It hence won’t be a really hard job for developer Re-Logic to port it over to the two new Nintendo platforms.

Once these versions are out, Terraria will exist on all major gaming platforms of today. It was released for PC in 2011, while 2013 saw it being launched for the PS3, the PS Vita and the Xbox 360. In the same year, it was also brought onto Android and iOS, while the Windows Phone release took place the year after. It was only last year that versions for the PS4 and the Xbox One were outed.

Terraria is an action-adventure sandbox offering that lays heavy emphasis on exploration, crafting, construction and combat, all of which take place in a procedurally generated world.
