Mario and Luigi RPG, new Donkey Kong game and a lot more in store for Nintendo devices

The Valentine’s Day Nintendo Direct address that took place yesterday had news related to everything from a Mario and Luigi RPG, a new Donkey Kong games and a slew of other content for the 3DS and Wii U featuring the company’s beloved characters. Besides, the year 2013 was declared by it as the ‘Year of Luigi,’ stating that numerous appearances by ‘Mario’s timid, green-clad twin brother’ will be seen this year.

First among them is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon which will be coming out for the 3DS on March 24 with fresh features that include additional multiplayer modes apart from the Hunter Mode revealed earlier. And then, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team was announced by Nintendo, also for the 3DS. This role-playing game will be hitting the handheld during the summer, and will have its story take place inside the mind of a sleeping Luigi.

That’s not all, as the Wii U’s New Super Mario Bros. U has been revealed to be slated to receive fresh DLC as well. Dubbed New Super Luigi U, this add-on will be released late this year with alternate versions of over 80 stages that the game possesses. Moreover, Mario Golf: World Tour has also been announced for the 3DS. This title will be coming out in 2013, filled with unique golf courses and characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, including Luigi of course.

Nintendo’s flagship handheld seems to be in line for receiving a slew of content this year. Apart from the games we’ve mentioned above, it will also be getting Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, a revamped version of the 2010 Wii offering, scheduled for this summer. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is another title aimed at the 3DS. It has its release date placed on June 9 for North America, while its European launch is planned for June 14. April 21 will see LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins being dished out for the handheld, with a story that’s set two years before that of the Wii U game, which itself will be coming out on March 18.

Furthermore, a number of games for the 3DS eShop have also been announced. These include Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger (April 11), HarmoKnight from Game Freak (March 28) and Kersploosh! (March 7).
