Nintendo’s popular handheld, the DSi recently got a new addition in the DSi XL, with larger screens and all that. The DSi offers its owners an influx of new titles every week. And according to gaming blog Kotaku, any DSiWare games you might have purchased on your DSi will not work on your new DSi XL console.
This means that if you plan on getting an XL, you’ll have to spend money again and re-purchase the games that you already have, in order to play them on the larger console. A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed to Kotaku that as of now there is no way to transfer purchases from one DSi to the XL. But the company rep gave fans a bit of assurance saying, “We’re looking into that specific topic, but we don’t have anything to announce at this time.”
This restriction is only for DSiWare titles though, as DS cartridge games work on all DS systems, DSi XL included. So that means that you won’t lose your library of games if you decide to buy a new DSi XL console. Let’s hope Nintendo sorts this out soon.
