The Nintendo DS system first made its way onto the gaming scene back in 2004. Although not a recent addition to the new consoles and iterations out in the market, the portable system however is still popular among gamers all over the globe. Just a few days back we had reported that the DS console sat pretty at the number 2 position while the Wii hit the premier spot last month in the United States.
Over the past couple of months, there have been rumors about a DS 2 floating around the gaming terrain. It now seems like the development kits of the Nintendo DS successor have already made its way into the hands of a few developers in Japan. With this new revelation, it looks like the rumors are slowly emerging into reality.
The Pokemon Company appears to be among the select few firms that are granted permission to work with the new device. According to CVG, this particular company was actually the first to be approached with the DS2 development kit. It is also disclosed by the website that the DS2 will comprise of a motion-sensing function.
A CVG insider from a third-party studio has incidentally got first hand experience with the console in question. He divulges that just a few other developers have acquired the hardware but only on a trial basis. Having closely experienced the gaming system, the insider reveals, “It’s genuinely the best thing I think I’ve ever worked with. I can tell you that it’s got a ‘tilt’ function that’s not dissimilar to iPhone, but does a lot more. We know that The Pokemon Company are getting special attention with it.”
He further added, “Any kind of March announcement wouldn’t fit with the timeline I understand the second DS to be on.”
Until any of the above information is officially approved by Nintendo, all we can do now is satisfy ourselves with the upcoming Nintendo DSi LL that is slated to hit Europe and North America by Q1 2010.
