When Nintendo launched its DSi in America and Europe, the company also put in place the DSiWare downloadable service for its handheld. Everyone is aware that Square Enix is best known for its console role playing franchises including the Dragon Quest series and the Final Fantasy series. Now Square Enix has revealed Dragon Quest Wars, its first offering on the DSiWare downloadable software service for the Nintendo handheld.
The Wired Game Life blog reports that the game is developed by Intelligent Systems and is to utilize popular characters and settings from Square Enix’s Dragon Quest franchise. Intelligent Systems has previously developed some of Nintendo’s first-party titles such as Fire Emblem and Advance Wars.
Dragon Quest Wars is to feature board game styled battle gameplay and will be playable by up to four players in local or online multiplayer modes. The game is scheduled to be released in June for 500 Nintendo DSi Points only in Japan. Release dates and pricing for the western countries have not been announced.
