Everyone loves an animated cartoon, be it a simple stick figure or a complex series of animations. Now Nintendo has announced Flipnote Studio, an application for the Nintendo DSi which makes it very easy to create an animation. The application is available for download for free from the Nintendo DSi Shop.
This innovative new application allows DSi users to create an animation using a series of images which can be drawn with the help of simple tools. The final animation is like flipping through a notepad. Flipnote Studio is an easy-to-use application making it very easy for anyone to create an animation.
DSi users can draw an image on the screen as the starting point for their animation. When this is done, the application shows an outline of the first image, for reference while drawing the next image, and so on. Once all the images in the series have been drawn out, the application animates them as a creation, known as a Flipnote. Sound can be added to the created Flipnotes. DSi users can even import their photos from their camera album as black and white images.
“Flipnote Studio takes the phenomenon of user-generated content to new levels of creative self-expression and social sharing – with all the fun and accessibility that consumers expect from Nintendo,” stated Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The animation possibilities are limited only by users’ imaginations.”
Users can even share their creations on the Flipnote Hatena site for others to view. Users can also share their Flipnotes using the console’s local wireless feature. DSiWare is designed to be used in many creative ways by Nintendo DSi users, and is available from the Nintendo DSi Shop.
