A few days ago, Nintendo unveiled the DSi with much fanfare. Featuring two cameras and enhanced audio features, the handheld gaming console is expected to have bigger screens and will be lighter. But now it has emerged that the Nintendo DSi will be region-locked.
Gaming news website CVG is reporting that Nintendo has confirmed to them that DSi software is region locked. A spokesperson from Nintendo explained, “DSi software (software that is only compatible with DSi) is region locked, eg: European DSi software can only be played on European DSi consoles.”
Though there was clarification about the Nintendo DS software as Nintendo stated that it would be region free. In fact, any DS software can be played on the Nintendo DSi from any region. But the above statement by Nintendo could send gamers into some kind of confusion as a few days ago, Cammie Dunanway, the executive VP at Nintendo of America, had said something contradictory.
But let’s hope that Nintendo clarifies the whole DSi region-lock confusion soon!
