Nvidia Grid streaming service goes available this month for Shield devices

Nvidia Grid is the name of a PlayStation Now-like game streaming service which will let users play PC titles on their Nvidia Shield Tablet or handheld. Available only in the form of a limited beta right now, this facility is all set to be released fully in North America this month, while its launch in Europe and Asia will take place next month and next year, respectively. It will be accessible for free as of now, but you will probably need to pay for it once June 2015 arrives.

Nvidia Grid

For those out of the loop, Nvidia Grid is a cloud-based service which houses the games on its own servers, and streams them on the screens of other devices using the Internet. The input from your controller is sent back to the servers to give you control of the game. All this happens with such low latency that is seems as if the gaming is happening on the device itself. Of course, a fast Internet connection is a must for this, and while a minimum of 1.5Mbps is enough, Nvidia recommends it to be at least 6.5Mbps.

The Grid will be doled out to the Sheild Tablet on November 18 along with its Android 5.0 Lollipop update. There’s no word on when the software will be delivered to the Sheild handheld device, but we’re guessing that should happen soon. For now, around 20 games will be made available, while more and more will be added to the library as time passes.

Like we said, Nvidia Grid will go live in North America this month itself, while it will be hitting Europe next month.
