Minecraft: Pocket Edition is now playable on Windows Phone devices

Windows Phone was the only remaining mobile platform among the three important ones that Minecraft: Pocket Edition wasn’t available for, but that has just changed, even as the game has finally been released for it. This comes as an obvious effect of the fact that Microsoft recently purchased the development studio which made the game, for a mind-numbing sum of 2.5 billion USD. Like we said, the extremely popular game’s mobile version has been available for Android and iOS device since quite a long time.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition

This new version will only be compatible with smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1, and is purchasable at the moment at 6.99 USD (approx Rs 435). It includes both the Survival as well as Creative modes of the title. While the former asks you to gather resources and build shelter during the day in order to hide from monsters at night, the latter gives you unlimited resources and the ability to fly so that you can build any kind of a Minecraft structure you want. There’s even multiplayer support present in the title which can be accessed as long as others are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Following its launch in 2011, Minecraft became more of a phenomenon than a game. It has achieved such immense popularity that it’s one of the best-selling video games of all time right now. It has received several prestigious awards, and is available on every mainstream gaming platform. The studio that created it, Mojang, was usurped by Microsoft in September this year, which means the rights of it are now in the hands of the Xbox-maker.
