PUGB creator reveals new steampunk-inspired MMO

Considering that Bluehole brought us the excellent multiplayer online PC game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, hopes are running high for their next offering dubbed Ascent: Infinite Realm, or A:IR for short. Kakao Games (the guys who released Black Desert Online in the US) will be publishing it following the rollout of a closed beta in the first half of 2018.

Bluehole promises that AIR will be highly customizable, whether it’s the aerial vehicles, classes or quests. The MMO shows off an interesting mix of steampunk and fantasy elements – there are dragons, odd-looking flying ships, barrel races, warring mechs, Avatar-style floating islands, trolls and what not in the 5-minute long announcement trailer.

So it looks like an unruly hodgepodge of everything including the kitchen sink thrown in. Let’s just trust Bluehole will get this right, ok? Sure, the frame rate stutters here and there. But the devs still have until the 2018 to fine tune the game. One of the points worth talking about is the mix of aerial- and ground-based combat players will get to experience.

The game will have five classes covering Warlord, Sorceress, Gunslinger, Assassin and Mystic. It also features PvP combat in the Realm Vs Realm mode. Some parts of the trailer have characters engaging in mundane pursuits like fishing and structure building’ lending credibility to the suspicion that you may be able to ‘just hang out’ sometimes instead of engaging in battles.

We’re sure waiting with bated breath for Bluehole to drop more information on A:IR. What about you?
