World of Speed revealed as NFS: Shift developer’s new MMO racer

World of Speed is the name of a PC-focused MMO racing game which is set to be released later this year. It’s being developed by Slightly Mad Studios of the NFS: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed fame, and will be published with a free-to-play model by My.com later this year. Described as a AAA massively multiplayer online arcade racer, it will be entering closed beta this spring itself, and registrations for the same are now open.

Slightly Mad Studios has revealed that World of Speed will allow players to access an ‘endless garage of cars’ that will include everyday city runners, fast supercars as well as iconic cars from the past. Moreover, the game’s races will take place on ‘true-to-life’ tracks which will be set across various locations from around the world.

Real-time interactive social elements as well as club and team based gameplay will form part of World of Speed. Moreover, its developers have also disclosed that unique missions and objectives will be incorporated into its races to bring in versatility. And since it’s an online experience, the game will be bestowed with a regular influx of live events, player challenges, new modes, tracks, cars and more.

Slightly Mad Studios is known to be the team behind hits like Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed. This London-based studio is currently also working on Project CARS, a unique simulator which is being developed with an active involvement of the community.

World of Speed doesn’t have a release date yet, but its closed beta is scheduled for this spring. Those who wish to enter it can sign up for it through the game’s official site.
