With an action RPG based on the popular series already on its way, George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world will now be seen entering the brand new Game of Thrones MMORPG which is being created by German developer, Bigpoint. This browser-based title is scheduled to be unveiled at this year’s Game Developers Conference which commences next week in San Francisco.

The game will be set in the medieval world of Westeros and its Seven Kingdoms, where summers are said to span decades and winters can last a lifetime. The developer has partnered with HBO in order to craft this new title that is inspired by the latter’s TV show of the same name, which in turn, is based on a series of books written by George R.R. Martin.
Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder, Bigpoint, revealed, “With a rich and complex story, expressed through an amazing level of detail, it’s easy to see why the HBO series, Game of Thrones, has amassed an army of fans worldwide. We intend to build a game that resonates intimately with its diehard community of followers, while also creating an authentic gaming experience that attracts newcomers to the franchise. The excitement of online games is that, over time, their collective input will help shape the game’s destiny; we’re eager to see how the story unfolds.”
Bigpoint has also disclosed that it will be joining forces with Norwegian studio, Artplant for the development process of the Game of Thrones MMORPG. The title will be created using the Unity development platform which was also employed by the developers in Battlestar Galactica Online. Being a browser-based offering, it will be playable with the Unity plug-in.
Very few details are out now about the Game of Thrones MMORPG, except for the fact that it will be getting a closed beta during fall of this year.
