Battlestar Galactica Online Acquires One Million Registered Players in Six Weeks

Back in February this year, an open access to the beta build of the new space combat title namely Battlestar Galactica Online was unveiled. The browser-based game is based on the 2004 remake of the Syfy television series of the same name. Bigpoint reveals that Battlestar Galactica Online boasts of garnering one million registered players within a span of just six weeks. With these numbers, the engaging title is noted to be the company’s most successful unveiling.

The free-to-play space combat MMOG Battlestar Galactica Online features a mix of intense gameplay elements and intense 3D graphics. Furthermore, the company plans on acquiring more players over the year as it leverages a wide global network of more than 1000 distribution partners. The overall numbers are further expected to rise as it boasts of over 150 payment solutions and more than 25 languages. This apparently helps to attract over 250,000 new players each day.

“There is always a risk when you translate a well-known IP into another medium,” explained Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder, Bigpoint. “We built what we believed was a recipe for success; a fantastic gaming experience inspired by an iconic show, with the added benefit of being a free-to-play title. We are grateful to the fans for their support and interest in this game, and pledge to continue to improve and optimize the game.”

Earlier this month, Battlestar Galactica Online was endowed with the Unity game platform entitled Unity 3.3. Thanks to this update, the overall stability, graphics and special effects of the game have been enhanced. Based on community feedback and development schedule, the company aims at infusing new features and content. The offering also brings to players many new human and Cylon ships besides the already included Cylon Raider and the Viper Mark VII classic fighters. There have also been new Cylon Tier 2 and Tier 3 ships added to the array.

Developed by Artplant, Battlestar Galactica Online is fashioned and produced by Bigpoint International. The MMOG is currently in open beta.
