Educational MMO Game to be Developed by NASA

Video games are a great way to impart education and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is planning to use this medium in a very nice way! It has emerged that the space agency is planning to come up with a massively multiplayer online (MMO) game that will educate players on technology as well as rocket science.

This is what NASA had to say about massively multiplayer online games:

MMOs help players develop and exercise a skill set closely matching the thinking, planning, learning, and technical skills increasingly in demand by employers today. These skills include strategic thinking, interpretative analysis, problem solving, plan formulation and execution, team-building and collaboration, and adaptation to rapid change.

NASA has cited that there is a growing interest in ‘persistent immersive synthetic environments’. The American space agency feels that learners would be helped by virtual worlds as they will be able to get scientifically accurate simulations for things such as chemical reactions in living cells. In fact, NASA says that learners would be able to practice operating as well as repairing expensive equipment and experience microgravity. A few months ago, NASA had decided to use the Unreal Engine to develop space exploration videogames.
