The journey of Mojang’s indie wonder continues, even as the Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition boxed release date gets revealed by the developer. These copies will be launched in the UK on June 28 this year, and will come equipped with a two-day trail of Xbox Live’s Gold subscription. North American gamers will be getting it earlier however, on June 4. Since its very first appearance in 2011, the game has made its presence felt across platforms that include PC, Mac, Android, iOS, the Raspberry Pi and the Xbox 360, albeit only in its downloadable form.
And now, as the disc version readies itself to hit the console, fans are wondering if there will ever be a PS3 version of the title which they’d get to play on Sony’s console. There have been talks on the matter recently, but nothing concrete has been disclosed. The exclusivity deal for consoles which the developer has struck with Microsoft is about to end, and it is after this that the studio will consider porting the game to the PlayStation platform.
Unique aspects which form part of the 360 version comprise of a newly designed crafting system, a control interface, in-game tutorials, split-screen multiplayer and the facility to play with friends via Xbox Live. Lots of new changes are continually being added to all the versions of the game in the form of regular online updates.
The game has been created around the concept of building structures using pixel-like blocks. It allows players to build their own structures inside a 3D procedurally generated world. And at the same time, other activities such as exploration, gathering resources, crafting and combat have also been infused into the title. Since its initial launch it has won several awards for its innovative gameplay approach.
The game even holds an iconic status at the moment. The ability to mold its world however one wishes to has resulted in a flurry of modifications, texture packs and custom maps being made available by modders from all over the world. Just recently, this title was in the news for having sold over 10 million copies of its PC version alone.
As mentioned above, the boxed version of the Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition should be out in the UK on June 28 and in North America on June 4.
