Will Microsoft Showcase the Next Xbox System at E3 2011?

For the past couple of days, we’ve been hearing varied headlines about the successor to the Wii codenamed Project Cafe. After Nintendo finally acknowledged that it is indeed planning a new home gaming console, some smoke from the Microsoft periphery has been garnering our attention. According to a UK-based magazine Develop, the gaming giant is apparently crafting a new Xbox console and the development hardware has reached EA’s lab for compatible titles.

Microsoft Xbox 360 Rumor

With only a few weeks for E3 2011, rumors about a new gaming hardware from Microsoft have been turning heads across the terrain. Although no specifications about the system are available yet, the system has supposedly been enclosed in a PC shell. However, a source from EA has dismissed these speculations while putting an end to further buzz.

In conversation with IGN, Electronic Arts’ director of corporate communications Jeff Brown cleared the air by elucidating that ‘this story is a total fabrication.’ Some other sources too have expressed doubts about any such unveiling at this year’s E3. A counter statement to this gossip states that the introduction of the Kinect has extended the lifespan of the Xbox 360, doing away with any possibilities of the next Xbox iteration in the near future.

Whether a new Xbox system is indeed in the making or if these rumors are just a figment of someone’s imagination cannot be determined at this point. However, it will be exciting to see a blueprint of what future consoles have to offer. As of now, Microsoft has not issued an official statement either confirming or denying the gossip.
