Xbox 360 Sells Record Units in Black Friday Week

Last week’s Black Friday sales have proven to be a bonus for the Xbox 360, as Microsoft has reportedly managed to trade off 960,000 consoles in the U.S. during this time. Major Nelson has announced on his official blog that this is the biggest week for Microsoft in the entire Xbox history.

According to the company’s internal data, 800,000 units out of the 960,000 were snapped up within just 24 hours. As for the Kinect, more than 750,000 devices have apparently been sold in the U.S. These figures include sales of standalone as well as bundled units of the motion sensing peripheral.

“We have seen tremendous excitement from customers for our hot holiday gaming offers. Xbox 360 was among the best-sellers at Best Buy this Black Friday, and is a testament to the continued popularity of the gaming category this holiday,” stated, Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of Home Entertainment at Best Buy.

These statistics are said to be a direct effect of the numerous discounts that were offered by retailers as part of their Black Friday deals. During the same time last year, Microsoft’s Kinect had supposedly managed to market one million units all through the Black Friday week.

The war of consoles, particularly between Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft has certainly reached new levels lately. Nintendo has already released its successful sales figures of this holiday season. However, Sony is yet to release the number of sold units of its devices during the crucial week.

The sale of record units of the Xbox 360 in the Black Friday week definitely heralds a new chapter in the worldwide console business.
