28 Million Xbox 360 Consoles Sold: Microsoft

It is the beginning of 2009 and the bragging of sales figures has just begun! Microsoft Xbox 360 was launched earlier than the Sony PS3 and the Nintendo Wii and according to some, it did give them a little advantage. Now Microsoft has sent word that the Xbox 360 life-to-date console sales have crosses the 28 million mark.

Don Mattrick is the Senior VP of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. He commented, “For Xbox, 2008 will be remembered around the world as a pivotal growth year at retail and online, even in the face of tough economic conditions. Worldwide, a record number of players flocked to our broadest games and entertainment lineup ever, while the New Xbox Experience thrilled millions of fans by making our console even more engaging. And yet, we’ve only provided a glimpse into the new world of interactive entertainment that we’re imagining. The best of Xbox 360 is yet to come.”

According to Microsoft, the lead of Xbox 360 over the Sony PS3 is more than 8 million units. Also, the EMEA territories has seen the Xbox 360 cross the 8 million mark and there also having a lead over the PS3, by a million units. For the Xbox Live figures, Microsoft pointed out that there are more than 17 million active members.

Content wise, The Dark Knight and Iron Man make it to the list of top movies while South Park and Heroes are on the list of TV Shows. As for the games on Xbox Live, it is dominated by Halo 3, the Gears Of War series and the new Call Of Duty games. Castle Crashers makes it to the list of the XBLA games.
