Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe Made Available on XBLA by Atari

Last year, we had reported that classic games by Atari would be appearing on the Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA). Now two games from the lot, Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe are available to the Xbox 360 gamers via Xbox Live. They have promised that three more Atari classics would also come soon.

Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe XBLA

Just like the original game released in 1979, Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe have the same gameplay that allows gamers to rotate, thrust, flip, fire and launch into hyperspace as approaching asteroids are blasted to smithereens. There are also evolved versions of the games that include updated, beautifully rendered and high definition graphics but have the same gameplay.

Besides these two games, Battlezone, Tempest and Warlords too would be available on the XBLA. These arcade games have the Emulation mode as well as an evolved version. The games have three different settings, Easy, Medium and Hard. Atari also informs that time-limited trial modes of all their classic titles would be up on Xbox Live.

The classic Battlezone has received a serious overhaul and added exciting new multiplayer modes. Gamers can use the Xbox Live Camera to watch live video of their opponents. Unite these features with new special effects for weapon firing, impacts and explosions and Battlezone becomes one killer classic.

Maintaining the spirit of the original’s linear geometric rendering by using vector graphics, the evolved version of the cult-classic Tempest features a graphics refurbish. Using skill and an arsenal of weapons, gamers must clear a web of enemies before time runs out and advance to the next stage.

The multiplayer Warlords pits king versus king to revive the competitive spirit of arcade games from years gone by. Up to four players can join the action with Xbox Live Camera support and take control of their own castle, allowing for a variety of single- or multiplayer experiences.

Asteroids and Asteroids Deluxe for the Xbox 360 have been developed by Stainless Games and are already up on XBLA while the other three games, Battlezone, Tempest and Warlords would be available after the Christmas season of 2007.
