PS4 finally launched in Japan

The sun does appear in Japan first, but the PS4 did not. It journeyed from North America to Europe in November, and later made its way to other regions before finally being released on Sony’s home ground, where it is expected to break even more records. The usual version of the next-gen console can be snapped up by Japanese gamers at a price of 39,980 yen, while a bundle containing the PlayStation Camera is going for 43,980 yen.

The lineup of launch games is completely different for the PS4 in Japan. Titles like Yakuza Ishin, Nikoli no Puzzle 4: Sudoku, Dream C Club: Host Girls on Stage, Tottemo E Mahjong Plus, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Creation, Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends and Onigiri are accompanying western games like Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone: Shadow Fall and more.

The image posted in the space below is from PlayStation Japan’s official Twitter account, and shows Japan’s first buyer of the PS4 console. Now available in a total of 49 countries worldwide, this machine has managed to sell more than 5.3 million units already. These figures have exceeded Sony’s target, and are supposed to swell furthermore, even as the console has made its way into its home territory.

Unveiled in February last year, and granted details on in June, the PS4 was released in November to huge acclaim. It managed to sell off one million units on its launch day itself. When it came to the UK, it became the best-selling console the territory has ever seen. It can now even be purchased in India at a price of Rs 39,990.
