PS4 sales breach 5.3 million mark, exceed Sony’s target

Figures as of February 8 have revealed that Sony’s beast of a next-gen console, the PS4 has managed to trade off 5.3 million units worldwide, thus continuing its incredible run of form. Out now in North America, Europe, Latin America and parts of Asia, this hardware is still to make its way into its maker’s home country Japan where it is expected to trounce more records on February 22 onwards.

Sony’s ambitious target was to sell 5 million PS4 units before the end of the 2013-2014 fiscal year. And it has not only succeeded in achieving its goal, but will also be raking in bonus sales, as there are still about three weeks to go for the fiscal year to end, and the Japan launch is right around the corner.

After having grabbed over a million pre-orders prior to its launch, the PS4 console continued to break records even after its release. Upon its North American launch on November 15, one million consoles were shifted off store shelves, whereas its UK release saw it becoming the country’s best-selling console by trading off over 250,000 units within 48 hours.

The Sony PS4 boasts of advanced performance and new features which are meant to make gaming an even more pleasurable experience. It grabs a new controller and the interface itself kicks in a gamut of social traits that provide a connected atmosphere.

Priced at 399.99 USD (Rs 39,900 in India), it happens to be 100 USD cheaper than Microsoft’s Xbox One, its fierce competitor. In a recent report, it has been said that the PS4 from Sony has managed to sell 2 times more units than the newest Xbox console.
