PS4 sales outdid Xbox One 2 to 1 this January in the US

Sales data for January is in, and it has painted a worrisome picture for Microsoft, as the PS4 has reportedly managed to sell off almost double the number of Xbox One consoles as far as the US is concerned. New NPD figures have also revealed that both Nintendo devices, the 3DS and the Wii U have seen an increase in their sales, but their software sales have declined.

PS4 And Xbox One

Sales of the PS4 console have much to do with its software as well. As has been observed by Eurogamer, the hit January release, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was more successful on Sony’s console than it was on Microsoft’s. It apparently sold twice as many PS4 copies than the Xbox One. While Sony has been prompt in releasing its own sales data since day one, Microsoft has chosen to be ambiguous with it from the start.

Just a few days back, the manufacturer revealed that the Xbox One is selling 2.29 times faster than Xbox 360 did in the US, but chose not to reveal how many units have been shipped till date. Its comparatively higher price and the restrictions it places on its features have been seen as the main reasons for the console not having fared well among the public.

The Sony PS4 has been priced at $399.99, whereas the Xbox One is dearer by $100 more. And when it was revealed for the first time, its ridiculous restrictions had faced so much fan backlash that they had to be completely scrapped by Microsoft. These events too contributed in raising the leverage of the newest PlayStation console.
