PS4 sales top 2.1 million worldwide

Delivering the best launch in PlayStation history, Sony’s PS4 has already managed to sell off more than 2.1 million units worldwide. These figures (as of December 1) were boosted by the fact that the console is now available 32 countries globally. And moreover, the machine is yet to be launched in Sony’s home territory, Japan which is of course another game-changing market to be looked at.

The eight generation console came out in North American territories on November 15, and was met with an overwhelming response from gamers there. Within just 24 hours of its release, one million units of the PS4 were already traded off. And then on November 29, we say it being launched in Europe and Australasia, where it gathered 700,000 sales as of December 1, and also became the bestselling console in UK, ever.

A number of first-party as well third party games have been made available for it as well. The likes of Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and more have also been well received by gamers, further enhancing the console’s prospects. The PS4 which was unveiled in February this year, features on it a custom 8-core AMD x86-64 CPU and a custom AMD Radeon GPU. It has been blessed with 8GB worth of GDDR5 RAM.

A newly developed DualShock 4 controller accompanies the setup, offering a more ergonomic design and a new Share button for capturing and uploading gameplay videos. A number of new and varied functionalities have also been granted to the console, including support for Twitch.tv streaming, control through voice commands, Remote Play and more.

With the 2.1 million mark crossed, the PS4 looks all set to meet Sony’s goal of selling 3 million units worldwide by the end of 2013.
