WikiPad Tablet Dreams of Cloud Gaming, Gaikai Steps In

Announced back at the CES 2012, the WikiPad tablet has finally popped out of its shell not for launch purposes, but for its cloud gaming desires that are most likely to be fulfilled through Gaikai. So when can we expect the slab? Well, that’s one thing the company’s keeping mum about.

The decision to partner with Gaikai seems to have surfaced through feedback received from gamers worldwide. With the cloud service, users should be able to stream console quality titles without compromising on precious memory. This addition is likely to be quite beneficial, considering that the device’s main motive is aimed towards gaming.

“The Wikipad is one of the most exciting devices for gaming to date. The tablet was designed with the needs of gamers in mind, enhancing the mobile gaming experience with a set of controls on par with today’s consoles and PC gamepads, enabling gameplay mechanics that have been previously unavailable with just touchscreen controls,” commented Robert Stevenson, EVP of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships at Gaikai.

It’s been very long since we’ve heard from the tablet in question. And over the past few months, the device has apparently been refreshed with new features and it’s expected to come bearing a change of heart as well. Along with enhanced specifications, the slate is scheduled to receive a 10.1-inch display and a quad core processor from an undisclosed maker, as part of the upgrade. It will also employ an ‘ultra-light’ chassis and an optional 3G antenna for mobile network connectivity.

As we’ve already said, the WikiPad tablet release date and price aren’t official as yet. However, the manufacturer should churn out those details sooner or later.
