Logitech Officially Announces the G27 Racing Wheel for PC, PS3

Logitech is a company known for its quality and state-of-the-art computer peripherals. Now the company has officially announced the new Logitech G27 Racing Wheel for the PC and PS3 on its BLogitech blog. The new G27 will replace the honoured G25 Racing Wheel. The main goal in coming out with the G27 was to improve on the G25 wheel.

The new G27 Racing Wheel features a dual-motor, single reduction force feedback transmission which is supported by two sets of ball bearings, and which has diagonal-cut or helical gears. The spur gears which produce more noise are done away with, and replaced by these helical gears.

The steering wheel is 11 inches in diameter and is draped in real leather featuring six buttons and 2 stainless steel shifter paddles. There are also ten LEDs (four green, four yellow and two red) on the wheel which can be set to act as an rpm meter or as a shift indicator in racing games.

Just like the G25, the G27’s shifter has an eight way D-pad and eight buttons, plus two clamps with knobs, and an anti-tip screw. The internals have also been redesigned to deliver a greater centering force and a positive feeling when each gear is engaged. The pedals on the other hand, remain largely unchanged. There are two improvements to the pedals though. Firstly, the clutch and brake pedals are closer to the gamer than the throttle pedal. And secondly, the pedal arms have four additional holes for greater adjustment.

As for now there is no official information about the release dates, availability and pricing of the hardware for the PC and the PS3.
