AMD Launches the ATI Radeon HD 5970

Everyone knows AMD for its graphics cads and earlier we reported that detail of the dual GPU HD 5970 had been leaked. Now AMD has introduced the ATI Radeon HD 5970, the fastest graphics card created to date. The HD 5970 will be the company’s flagship installment in the award-winning line of graphics cards.

“With the arrival of the ATI Radeon HD 5970, the fastest graphics card in the world, we’ve cemented AMD as the unquestioned graphics leader,” stated Matt Skynner, vice president and general manager, AMD Graphics Group. “With the holiday shopping season right around the corner, the new card, coupled with the awesome power of ATI Eyefinity technology, is the ultimate setup for serious gamers.”

The ATI Radeon HD 5970 has unlocked overclocking potential giving users every bit of power the card can offer. To keep the massive card cool, it features advanced fan and vapor chamber technologies and a fully vented exhaust. It also uses the ATI Overdrive technology to ensure overclocking headroom.

The ATI Radeon HD 5970 is capable of driving three displays at once at a maximum resolution of 7680×1600, giving the most unbelievable gameplay experience. The ATI CrossFireX technology can take advantage of the power of the multiple graphics processors. The card delivers almost 5 teraflops of computing power, and with its TeraScale 2 Unified Processing Architecture and 3200 Stream Processing Units, the card gives superior performance for all the latest DirectX 11 games.

The ATI Radeon HD 5970 has a GDDR5 memory interface, PCI Express 2.1 x 16 bus interface, and offers OpenGL 3.2 support. The card has an engine clock speed of 725 MHz and idle desktop power consumption as low as 42 watts.

Now shipping to retailers, the ATI Radeon HD 5970 also launches in new Alienware Area-51, Area-51 ALX and Aurora desktop PCs. To celebrate the card’s launch, AMD has announced the third and final contest to give back to fans and supporters. The contest is available on Facebook, and there are 10 Microsoft Xbox 360 consoles and 10 Nintendo Wii consoles to be given away.
