ATI dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970 Details Leaked

It seems ATI is on a quest to capture the title of graphics champion, as the folks over at AlienBabelTech got hold of information and pictures of ATI’s dual-GPU Radeon HD 5970 graphics card. It seems that ATI has dropped the X2 tags and what was supposed to be called the HD 5870 X2 will now apparently be called the HD 5970, and the HD 5850 X2 is likely to be called the HD 5950.

ATI Radeon HD 5970

The HD 5970 graphics card its self is colossal, measuring 13.5 inches long. That’s over a foot long! It even finds it difficult to fit inside a full sized tower case such as the Antec 1200. The Radeon HD 5970 features two Evergreen GPUs and needs one 8-pin and one 6-pin power connector.

Performance figures which were available earlier have been pulled at the request of AMD, and the company stressed that the board, the drivers and the BIOS had not been finalized yet. And according to AMD, the leaked pictures represent an engineering sample, so it might be safe to assume that the size of the graphics card will reduce a bit before final release.
