The computer graphics cards market is heating up! The two major players in the market, Nvidia and ATI are going all guns blazing to woo the perennial PC gamer. Now chip major AMD has sent word that they have launched the worlds fastest graphics card, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 that delivers a processing power of 2.4 teraFLOPS.
What sets apart the HD 4870 X2 is that it is first graphics card in the world to have a 2GB of ultra-high bandwidth GDDR5 memory. That’s not all! It also comes with two GPUs that are based on second generation 55nm technology. They are clocked at 750 MHz and combined have stream processors that number 1600.
The ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 was not the only card that was introduced by AMD. They also unveiled the ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2 graphics card. These graphics cards basically merge two ATI Radeon HD 4800 series GPUs with a better cross-GPU connection that is based on the PCIe 2.0 standard plus 2GB of memory.

The new products join a line-up of stellar offerings, all of which are designed to give gamers experiences that approach eye-definition computing.”
Coming to the prices, ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 costs USD 549 (approx. Rs. 23, 240). It is available at e-tailers all over the world. As for the ATI Radeon HD 4850 X2, it will come with a price tag of $399 (approx. 16, 890). The card will be released sometime in September 2008.
