BioShock 4’s Setting And Time Period Revealed By Leak

BioShock 4

Back in 2019, BioShock 4, the next entry to the series, was officially confirmed to be in development by publisher 2K Games. However, nothing about its setting, nor any other detail about the much-awaited game was disclosed.

Fans waiting eagerly for new information will be pleased about a new leak that has occurred. As per VGC, journalist Colin Moriarty spoke about the game’s setting and time period in his latest Sacred Symbols video on Patreon.

He has cited his sources to have claimed that BioShock 4 will take place in a fictional Antarctic city sometime during the 1960s. Eurogamer has corroborated this information through its own sources.

The 1960s were also the setting for BioShock 1 and 2, which took place in the underwater dystopia of Rapture. This could mean that the new BioShock will take place concurrently with the events that transpired in those games.

According to Moriarty, the Antarctic city in BioShock 4 will be called Borealis and its story will connect to previous narratives from the series. This game is being developed by a new studio named Cloud Chamber, with series creator Kev Levine having no influence over it.

The last entry to the BioShock series was BioShock Infinite, which was released in 2013. The game was set in 1912 and took place on a floating city called Columbia. Levine was the creative director and lead writer for this game, which was developed by his studio, Irrational Games.

This company was dissolved by him in 2014, however, some former employees came together in 2017 to found Ghost Story Games. This new studio will have Levine acting as president and creative director.

Coming back to BioShock 4, don’t expect any official details on the game anytime soon, since it’s in its early stages of development.
